Sarumawashi is a centuries-old Japanese performing art where humans and Japanese macaques perform together. One of the earliest known pictorial representations can be found in the Nenjū Gyōji Emaki, a picture scroll dating back to the second half of the 12th century, often associated with the year 1165.

The detailed back motif combines this historical tradition with modern Japanese-inspired streetwear: strong contrasts, classic design elements, and a self-confident monkey in traditional attire.
